Elaine Bakke has demonstrated a commitment to Literacy Education throughout her career. Currently she is sharing her passion for literacy as a member of the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project Unit of Study teams for introducing the Reading and Writing Workshop Unit of Study Kits to schools and districts across the country through professional development workshops. In these workshops Elaine connects the use of the kits in supporting a Balanced Literacy Framework. She demonstrates various components of reading or writing workshop and invites teachers to share in conversations about the resources. She is also working with several NJ and SC school districts helping grades 3-5 teachers implement Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop. Previously Elaine has served as a Supervisor of Language Arts K-12, a Supervisor of Human Resources, a Literacy Coach and a classroom teacher. In each position Elaine worked collaboratively with administrators and colleagues to foster exemplary literacy instruction. As a former ELA Supervisor, she was instrumental in creating and supporting a Balanced Literacy curriculum and worked with Teachers College Reading and Writing Project to support Reading and Writing Workshop with professional development and curriculum resources. Her collegial relationship with district teachers and administrators helped move their work forward. Elaine has been a speaker at various professional conferences including NCTE/CEL and NJPSA.
