Berit Gordon offers many years of experience as a literacy consultant, in addition to teaching English at the secondary school level and English Education at the graduate school level. She has taught at the Teachers College of Columbia University and at Seton Hall University. She has an intense love of the classroom that has enabled her to serve as a mentor and model teacher in New York and New Jersey secondary schools, as well as an instructor to secondary teachers headed into the field of English education. Berit combines her love for literacy education and her strong interest in the use of technology to provide children with engaging, transformative experiences in the classroom. She is an expert in the literacy Common Core Standards, and offers a wealth of strategies for making them translatable to classroom instruction and for developing CCSS aligned assessments. In addition, she offers in-depth experience and training in the Teachers College Reading and Writing Workshop model, and is able to train and coach toward the architecture of the mini-lesson, conferring, reading and writing notebooks, book clubs, guided reading, learning progressions, and developing lifelong readers and writers starting in the classroom.
