Caron Cesa, Ph.D., has taught Kindergarten through fifth grade in both general and special education
settings within New York City Public Schools District 2 and private schools. Most recently she was the
Literacy and Mathematics Coach at the Manhattan New School. Her fourth grade classroom at the
Manhattan New School served as one of the lab sites for Tony Stead's Reality Checks.
Caron has worked as an adjunct professor at Fordham University teaching graduate level literacy
courses. She received her Ph.D. from Fordham University. Caron holds an M. A. in Reading Specialist
from Teacher College, Columbia University and a B.S in Special Education from New York University.
She mentors novice teachers and veteran educators. Caron provides professional development that
uses best practices within the Balanced Literacy framework. She enjoys collaborating with teachers
and administrators to enrich their learning communities. Curriculum planning based on assessment,
small group work, book clubs, subject area literacy, reading and writing workshop models, and the New
Common Core Standards are just some of her expertise. She has also presented workshops for parents
for both literacy and mathematics.
