Leslie Blauman has taught for over 25 years in Colorado. She is currently
an intermediate teacher, but has taught grades 1 through 6. Leslie is a
state and national literacy consultant and has presented at local and
national conferences, among them IRA, NCTE and CCIRA. Her classroom is a
model site for staff development in reading, writing, and thinking through
the PEBC. She hosts both local and national labs throughout the year. These
national labs focus on literacy instruction, reading comprehension
strategies, writer's workshops, and thinking skills. The labs are attended
by both teachers and administrators, and she has had educators from all over
the country in her room. She has worked closely with Ellin Oliver Keene,
Stephanie Harvey, Susan Zimmermann, and Chryse Hutchins and is referenced in
many of their books. Leslie and her students were featured in the
professional development series, Strategy Instruction in Action (Harvey and
Goudvis, Stenhouse 2002.) Other aspects of her instruction are highlighted
in Non-Fiction Matters (Harvey), Strategies That Work (Harvey and Goudvis),
7 Keys to Comprehension (Hutchins and Zimmermann) and When Writing Workshop
Isn't Working (Overmeyer). Her writer's workshop reflects their approaches
and her students write authentically with a great deal of rigor. Leslie
worked as an Elementary Literacy Coordinator and has authored district-wide
curricula and worked on literacy and reading and writing standards at the
state level. She has taught numerous district literacy staff development
courses and worked as a district staff developer for 6-Trait Writing.
Currently Leslie is teaching 4th grade outside of Denver, Colorado.
