Currently, she is a consultant for professional development in mathematics specializing in grades Pre- K to 8. Through her consulting, she has worked with different school districts, to create and disseminate instructional materials, demonstrate lessons, plan with teachers, give in-class support, and instruct about current research and practices. Sally demonstrates the use of questioning techniques that encourage thinking, sharing, and risk-taking. She has extensive experience with all of the NJ ASK tests, grades 3 – 8, and presents workshops on those topics for ASCD and for the College of NJ.
In addition to Sally's experience in the classroom, she was involved in the standards process when she worked in the Office of Standards and Assessment of the New Jersey State Department of Education. She continues to work with the Office of Standards and Assessment by reviewing the proposed changes for the next draft of the Mathematics Core Curriculum Content Standards. She has also presented workshops to elementary school teachers and administrators, focusing on teaching to the Core Curriculum Content Standards.
Her love of math and enthusiasm for involving her participants, whether they are teachers or students, permeates throughout her workshops. She encourages the participants to see how math is in all disciplines. She loves to use literature as a vehicle for the mathematics.
