Shana Covel - Technology
|
|
After enthusiastically incorporating technology into her own classroom for
many years, Shana Covel became an instructional technology staff developer
eight years ago. She is known throughout New York City for lively and
practical, hands-on technology workshops. Some of her favorite topics
include: Getting the Most out of Your Interactive Whiteboard (i.e.
SMARTboard, Promethean), Microsoft Applications for Educators (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Outlook), The Best Free Internet Resources for Teachers ,
Setting up a Student Technology Team, Getting Going in a One to One
Computing Environment, Digital Storytelling, Cybersafety , Being Digitally
Literate in the 21st Century, Helping your English Language Learners with
Technology, iPads for education, and Teaching with Web 2.0 Tools (blogs,
wikis, discussion boards, etc.). Shana is happy to customize workshop
topics and activities to the needs of the participants.
A typical interactive whiteboard workshop incorporates hardware basics,
troubleshooting, software navigation, web resources, and the development of
a lesson plan(s) using interactive whiteboard software. Regardless of topic,
Shana always leaves her participants with a wealth of web resources to turn
to after the workshop is over. Shana is a certified trainer in SMARTboard
technology, Promethean ActivBoard technology, and tablet PC technology. She
also is a consultant for website development and design. She has
contributed to several writing projects that include teacher training
manuals and curricular units infusing technology into instruction. Prior to
her work as an instructional specialist, she served as an instructional
coach and has taught grades in both elementary and middle school.
